Pegged Pendulum Minimum Drop Height Calculator

Pegged Pendulum Minimum Drop Height Calculator

Calculate the minimum height from which a pendulum must be dropped to complete a full circle about a peg using the equation:
\[ h = \frac{5}{2}(L-d) \] where \(L\) is the pendulum length and \(d\) is the distance from the pivot to the peg.

* Enter all values in SI units. Note that \(d\) must be less than \(L\).

Step 1: Enter Parameters

Example: 2 m

Example: 0.5 m (must be less than L)

Formula: \( h = \frac{5}{2}(L-d) \)

Practical Example:
For a pendulum of length \( L = 2 \) m and a peg located \( d = 0.5 \) m from the pivot:
\[ h = \frac{5}{2}(2 – 0.5) = \frac{5}{2}(1.5) = 3.75\, \text{m} \]
