Short Transmission Line Efficiency & Regulation Calculator

Short Transmission Line Efficiency & Regulation Calculator

For a short transmission line, the receiving-end voltage is approximated by:
VR=VSI(Rcosϕ+Xsinϕ)1000 where ϕ=arccos(PF). Then, the efficiency is η=VRVS×100% and the voltage regulation is Regulation=VSVRVR×100%.

* Enter sending voltage (kV), line current (A), power factor, and line impedance values (R and X in ohms).

Step 1: Enter Transmission Line Parameters

Example: 220 kV

Example: 500 A

Example: 0.95

Example: 0.2 Ω

Example: 0.3 Ω

Derived Formulas:
VR=VSI(Rcosϕ+Xsinϕ)1000,
η=VRVS×100%, and Regulation=VSVRVR×100%, with ϕ=arccos(PF).

Example:
For VS=220kV, I=500A, PF=0.95, R=0.2Ω, and X=0.3Ω, the calculator computes the receiving voltage, efficiency, and regulation.
