Blind Area

Blind Area - Calculate construction and material requirements accurately.

What is a Blind Area?

A "Blind Area" (often called an Apron or Pavement in English, and Отмостка in Russian/European construction) is a waterproof strip of concrete or asphalt that surrounds the perimeter of a building.

Why Do You Need It?

1. Protection: It stops rainwater from soaking into the soil directly next to the foundation, preventing settling and cracks.
2. Insulation: It reduces frost heave in cold climates by keeping the ground drier and warmer.
3. Aesthetics: It provides a clean walking path around the house.

The "Pie" Structure

Base Layers (Bottom to Top)

  • Compacted Soil: The native ground must be firm.
  • Clay Lock (Optional): A layer of clay to stop water.
  • Sand (10-20cm): For drainage and cushioning.
  • Gravel (10-20cm): To prevent capillary rise of water.

Top Layer

  • Concrete: The most common. 8-15cm thick.
  • Reinforcement: Wire mesh (100x100mm) is crucial to prevent cracking.
  • Slope: Must slope 3-5% AWAY from the house.
