Why does my BMI say overweight when I am muscular?
BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat. Dense lean mass raises weight without raising risk, which is exactly the case where a body fat estimate gives the more useful picture.
Which is more accurate?
They answer different questions. BMI accurately measures what it measures (a height-weight ratio). Circumference-based body fat estimates carry several percentage points of error, but still capture composition, which BMI ignores entirely. Neither replaces clinical assessment.
