Top Soil Calculator Guide
Understanding Top Soil Calculations
Topsoil is the upper, outermost layer of soil, usually the top 2 to 8 inches. It has the highest concentration of organic matter and microorganisms and is where most of the Earth's biological soil activity occurs.
Settling is Real
Like gravel, soil contains a lot of air when it's first delivered (fluffed up). Once you spread it and water it, it will settle.
Settling Factor: Add 15-20% to your calculated volume.
1 Cubic Yard covers ~100 sq ft at 3 inches deep.
